John Haworth has held leadership positions in the cultural sector since the 1970s. As Senior Executive at National Museum of the American Indian in NYC, he played key roles in establishing the Diker Pavilion for Native Arts & Cultures and developing the collections-based exhibition Infinity of Nations. He has written essays about the history of NMAI, preserving indigenous languages, tribal cultural centers, and artists Robert Davidson, Horace Poolaw, George Morrison, Fritz Scholder, Luzene Hill, Gregg Deal and novelist Margaret Verble. He served as Assistant Commissioner at NYC Department of Cultural Affairs. Haworth serves on Americans for the Arts board, and advisory councils for Auschwitz Institute, Native Arts & Cultures Foundation and ATALM. He has been honored by American Indian Community House, Association on American Indian Affairs, and ATALM (Lifetime Achievement Award 2022). MBA & Revson Fellow Columbia University; Bachelor’s Oklahoma University, Haworth is a member of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma.
